Webcams: Animal Inquiry and Observation
Can’t make it to a zoo? Observe animal habits and habitats using one of the many webcams broadcasting from zoos, aquariums, farms and home around the United States and the world.
A variety of animals are available on the following webcams; however, they offer very different viewing experiences. Some are truly live video feeds broadcasting as they might on television. Other pages show an image that updates every so many seconds—or even so many minutes. Several of the sites offer archived highlights of the animals. While not live, these archives are useful as they have a guarantee of showing the animal do something and they can be watched repeatedly. In addition to these video archives, some sites include individual images of the animals that can be used to supplement observations (for example, close-up pictures of the animals during a veterinarian’s examination). As you choose among these cameras, then, the choice involves not only the particular type of animal but also the kind of resources that are available.
