“I love having the webcams. I was a stay at home mom. This is the first time I’ve had my child in school, so being able to see him all day, be able to see what’s he’s doing. It’s a great thing,” said Ali.
Elijah Carroll runs the Roanoke Valley Montessori School, where they’ve installed webcams and microphones in every class. Parents are given a login and password to access them.
Ali says she likes to check in to make sure her son is learning.
“I like to see what he’s doing in school, to see if he’s paying attention, to see how he’s interacting with the other kids,” said Ali.
Carroll says a lot of parents like the webcams just so they can see their kids during the day.
“We’ve had a few of the moms say she’s really happy because she can sit and have her lunch and watch her child have lunch at the same time and it’s kind of like she gets to have lunch with him,” said Carroll.
Parents can also watch their children on the playground and even see who comes through the front door.
“You’re entrusting your child to someone else. Unfortunately in today’s world, a lot of things can happen. Being able to watch him all day makes me feel a lot more secure,” said Ali.
As they head for home Ali’s got some peace of mind knowing her son will be safe at school. And with the eye in the sky, she can make sure.
