Crematorium on camera in Sheffield
A new webcam system has been installed in a crematorium chapel in Sheffield so that relatives or friends who cannot attend a funeral can watch the service live online. It is a new innovation introduced by Co-operative Funeralcare based at Grenoside Crematorium. Those unable to access a computer for the live service can ask for a DVD.

The webcam service costs £60. Glynn Jones who manages the crematorium, says it is already proving popular. “It is ideal for older people or those in hospital, as well as relatives who live abroad.
“Families and friends who can’t make the service on the day for whatever reason can now be part of the service by viewing it live on the webcam.” Glynn Jones also says that the system is very secure. The family are given a personal username and password and it is up to them to distribute it to the people who would like to view the service live online.
No one else is given access to the webcam unless the family pass on the information. The password will never be used again.
