Peeping Tom ripped Webcam on Laptop to take pictures, user beware
This is similar to Edison Chen problem but at a more techie level. A guy by the name of Craig Matthew Feigin, 23 years old, took advantage of repairing a woman’s laptop by installing “unwanted” software into the woman’s computer. With that, he is able to capture 20,000 photographs of this woman in various stage of undress
Her Initial problem
Apparently, this lady by the name of Marisel Garcia had some trouble with her laptop. It was running very slowly. She related to her friends who introduce Feigin to her as they think he can help her with her problem.
What happen?
She went down to Feigin’s place to get her laptop checked overnight. By the next day, the laptop was returned to her. She did not notice anything wrong until a few weeks later when she noticed that whenever she is near her webcam, the webcam light lighted up. At the same time, she noticed that her laptop battery life is not as good as before.
So, this time, she turned to her trusted friend, a computer expert, to check the laptop. He found 2 software programs that was not meant to be there. They are: -
- Log Me In
- Web Cam Spy Hacker
According to the report, Web Cam Spy Hacker may have been written by Feigin himself as the software website has his address on it. Apparently, he is selling both software as a package for people who want to spy on their spouses or maid or etc.
But its too late for Marisel Garcia as more then 20,000 photographs of her and her boyfriend (some in various state of undress as the laptop was placed in her bedroom) were captured by the webcam and uploaded to a European Server.
Marisel Garcia is not the only victim. At least one other woman had the same software installed (according to Feigin) but the police thinks that there are more than that.
