New webcam for animal lovers: Tapir Webcam

ANIMAL fans can now watch tapirs from the comfort of their own home via a new web cam.

Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in Wraxall has installed the new camera so animal enthusiasts can watch the resident Brazilian tapirs Tara and Toby go about their daily business.

The Tapircam, which can be viewed on this website via the link below, has a live and continuous stream and allows visitors to get a glimpse into the daily habits of an endangered species.

Head keeper, Chris Wilkinson said: “We are very excited to have a web cam installed in the tapir house.

“We are hoping for baby tapirs in the not too distant future. Tapirs are listed as endangered with their long term future in the wild severely limited. It is therefore essential that breeding in captivity continues wherever possible.

“A web cam will allow us to gain a better understanding of the breeding habits of an animal that is becoming increasingly rare”.

This is just the first of several web cams planned for the zoo farm. A Tigercam will be installed after the arrival of tigers next year.

Visitors can see Tara and Toby at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, until November 1 when it closes for the winter.
