Wi-Fi webcam is simply a camera but has Wi-Fi capability that allows you to be connected to wireless network wherein cables are no longer needed.

So what’s the big catch? With this type of camera, you can store up your pictures and even an entire album without the help of USB cable. You can also download and even share photos from your network to others. In addition, this kind of camera can also be of much use if you want to keep track of your children’s activities or if you have a beautiful view you can show and share it to the world like on Webcam Guide but then the disadvantage part is…it is more expensive than the other type of camera.

If you want to install Wi-Fi web cams you need to have of course the web cam itself, a computer with OS compatible to the web cam, a wireless support security, wireless Internet service, audio support and head set with microphone. With tons of Wi-Fi webcam available today, here are some popular webcam : Order Webcam

In the capital of Dhaka yesterday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the first computer ever produced in Bangladesh, amusingly branded as the “Doel” laptop. Telecoms company Telephone Shilpa Sangstha is producing four models of the computer, the cheapest of which runs for about $130, cheaper than most worthwhile netbooks, with the primary model running Android as its operating system.

According to PC World, the primary model of the Doel sports an 800MHz processor 512 MB of RAM, 16 GB of flash memory, Wi-Fi, and a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 LCD screen. The model will also feature an SD card reader, webcam, and two USB ports. At first, the laptop will be distributed to government departments, but is planned to then be distributed for public consumption, including to millions of students. Interestingly, at the moment, Bangladesh is only producing 10 percent of the components for the laptop, with the rest of said components being imported, though the company aims to be producing 60 percent of the components within 6 months time.

On the day Apple announced the availability of the iPad in the UK and some other Western European countries, rival German company WeTab changed the name of its tablet computing product and company from WePad to WeTab.

In a statement, the German company said the name change was to “clearly differentiate our products within the international market for tablet computers”. A WeTab representative declined to comment on whether Apple influenced the name change.

The earlier WePad product drew some attention for its close brand-name resemblance to iPad. Apple on Friday said the iPad will be available in nine countries on May 28. UK customers can pre-order the Wi-Fi and 3G iPads from today. Prices start at £429, including VAT.

There are differences in the hardware and software capabilities of the iPad and WeTab. WeTab has said its tablet computing device includes features the iPad lacks, including Flash support, a larger screen, a webcam and two USB ports. The WePad has an 11.6-inch display compared to iPad’s 9.7-inch display. However, the device weighs 800 grams (1.76 pounds), which is heavier than the iPad, which weighs in at 680 grams.

The WePad runs on Intel’s 1.66GHz Atom N450 processor, compared to Apple’s A4 chip, which includes a 1GHz processor. The N450 processor goes mostly into netbooks, but Intel earlier this week released the Moorestown platform, which includes a low-power Atom processor designed for smartphones and tablets.

Apple’s chip is capable of playing back 720p video, while critics have charged that Intel’s N450 processor struggles with video at that resolution. However, the 3G version of the WeTab is capable of playing back 1080p video with a video accelerator, according to the company.

WeTab was officially announced in mid-April at a press event in Germany, where the device was shown. The device runs a version of the Linux OS and is designed for users to surf the Web, play games, read e-books and play video. The device is being made in a joint venture with technology company Neofonie.

A WeTab with 16GB of storage is priced at €449 (£390), which includes Wi-Fi. A 32GB WeTab 3G with 1080p video is priced at €569.

Photographed during a news conference in Berlin, Germany, Monday April 12, 2010. The German maker of a new tablet computer is setting out to rival Apple’s iPad with the promise of even more sophisticated technology.

The German maker of a new tablet PC is setting out to rival Apple’s iPad with the promise of even more technology such as a bigger screen, a webcam and USB ports. It is not, however, an “iPad killer” as it has been dubbed by some blogs but an alternative to its bigger rival, Neofonie GmbH’s founder and managing director Helmut Hoffer von Ankershoffen told reporters on Monday in Berlin.

Ankershoffen stressed the system’s openness: Two USB ports allow users to connect all kinds of devices with the WePad, from external keyboards to data sticks. People who want to put music on their WePad do not have to have any particular software, Ankershoffen said — a blow at Apple’s devices that require particular Apple software like iTunes. The WePad’s basic version, which comes with Wi-Fi and 16-gigabyte storage, is set to cost euro449 ($600), the larger 32-gigabyte version with a fast 3G modem is euro569. Ankershoffen claimed that given its technological superiority and greater openness, “that’s a bargain compared with the iPad.”

The iPad — which hit stores in the U.S. less than a month ago — is on sale there starting at $499 for the smallest version, coming with Wi-Fi and a 16 GB storage. The WePad, with its 11.6-inch screen, is powered by an Intel chip and relies on a Linux software basis which is compatible with Google’s Android and all Flash applications, Ankershoffen said. When it hits stores starting late July, it will also boast a complete open source office package, he said.

Reporters could not test the device at the press conference. Berlin-based Neofonie — a small company of some 180 employees — claims it already has some 20,000 people interested in signing up for a pre-order, even though orders won’t be formally accepted before April 27. Ankershoffen declined to give a sales estimate. “Not thousands, not tens of thousands but many more will be sold before the end of the year,” he said.

The WePad is to be assembled by a manufacturer in Asia — which Ankershoffen refused to name — that can ramp up production capacity according to demand, he said. Neofonie casts the WePad as helping the media industry find a way to market paid content and hopes to appeal to publishers, some of whom are disgruntled with Apple’s pricing policy and restrictions. The device would allow publishers to sell their content on its platform without monopolizing the customer relationship, as Apple’s iTunes or Amazon’s Kindle do, the company said.

Gruner + Jahr, one of Europe’s largest magazine publishers, already has a partnership with Neofonie, offering the company’s flagship magazine, Stern, on the platform. “It will be the first magazine, but others will certainly follow,” Stern’s deputy chief Tobias Seikel said at the press conference. Germany’s biggest publisher, Berlin-based Axel Springer AG, is in talks with Neofonie, but no cooperation is planned yet, spokesman Christian Garrels said. “We want to offer our company’s brands on several platforms with a high range,” Garrels told The Associated Press.

The company’s flagship daily, Bild, previously had trouble with its iPhone application because Apple censors sexually explicit content, such as the paper’s daily nude photo. Apple’s iPad will go on sale in Germany at the end of April, according to the company’s Web site. This would give the iPad roughly a three month lead on its German competitor. Neofonie seems determined to face its big California rival: The company distributed tasty red apples boasting the WePad’s logo at the press conference.

However, both companies have to prove that the touch screen device will not only amaze the tech-savvy early users, but will also appeal to mainstream consumers at a time when people have already a lot of Internet-connected gadgets — smart phones, laptops, e-book readers, set-top boxes and home broadband connections.

Webcams are useful and exciting tools in the modern workplace. The webcam can be utilised to create better communications between yourself and your clients, or for building rapport from one company branch or office no matter where you are based. But how to install a webcam? follow the guidelines below:

Steps

1. Purchase the right webcam. There are many different kinds available:

Video-conferencing cameras are made to plug into the computer so you can chat with someone while recording simultaneously. They usually cost $30-50.

A monitoring webcam has its own little Web server built in and is designed to transmit images through the Internet so you can watch someone or something. They’re usually upwards of $200. To install one, you’ll need an Internet-sharing router with Wi-Fi support.

If you’re using the camera for security or monitoring purposes, consider purchasing a wireless model. Look for wireless 802.11b/g with support for WEP or WPA/WPA2 encryption.

Additional features to consider: o external microphone, o motion sensor, o e-mail alerts plus a clip or still image of an event that trips the motion sensor, o remote-accessible pan/tilt/zoom so you can log into the camera on the Internet and move its view around, including zoom, o bundled software for handling multiple cameras.

2. Back up the computer’s hard drive before installing anything, just in case. That way, if anything goes wrong with the installation, you won’t lose any data.

3. Check for an updated version of the webcam software online. If there is an updated version, use that instead.

4. Read and follow the quick-start guide. You’ll be instructed to load the webcam software, and it will tell you when to plug in the webcam with a USB cable. If you plug in the webcam at the wrong time, that’ll cause problems. If that does happen, here’s what to do:

Uninstall existing camera installations (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs)

Unplug the webcam

Reboot the computer

Load the webcam installation software again, and this time, wait until you’re prompted before you plug in the USB cable!

5. Tell your computer what to do with the images. You have a few different options here, depending on what kind of webcam you have:

How to Stream Your Webcam

Send periodic snapshots to a website

Go face-to-face while chatting

Tips

Even though many models can take images at regular VGA resolution (640×480) that setting can slow your frame rate (the speed with which the webcam takes pictures and sends them through the Internet).

If you’re using the webcam to take snapshots when motion is detected, be sure to leave enough storage space in your computer to accommodate that possibility. A good rule of thumb is 2GB of space per camera.

Test your webcam, go to Testmycam.com

Warnings

If there are kids in the house, take steps to make sure they don’t use the webcam inappropriately (e.g. interacting with creepy strangers using the webcam).

The entry hall in my house has been a test bed for home monitoring cameras for years. I like to be able to record people coming into the house and see what’s going on around the front door. Anyone with a family and occasional babysitters will understand. So I continue to look for simple, robust video-monitoring solutions, and vendors keep obliging by improving the state of the art in home remote cameras.

Both are very easy to get up and running, and neither require monkeying with arcane router settings to get offsite access to the video streams–something that can be a problem with the Panasonic BL-C131A Network Camera Wireless 802.11 that I otherwise favor. (I’ve also tried the Logitech WiLife system, and find it quite good.)

The Vue
The Vue is the most unusual remote camera I’ve seen. The product is unchanged from my March 2 preview, but I had a chance to experiment with the shipping version recently. The big benefit of the Vue: The cameras are tiny, battery-powered and thus completely wireless, and the system is extremely easy to set up. You plug an included controller box into your router or switch and tuck it out of the way, and then you can place the cameras anywhere in your house on their clever little stick-on magnetic dome mounts. The standard kit comes with two cameras.

The Vue is great for monitoring a location but there’s a big downside: The cameras don’t have motion sensors. If they did, the batteries wouldn’t last. So you can see what’s happening when you want, or record images on a schedule, but this product doesn’t work as a security camera. It is very easy to share the output from a camera with friends, though. A two-camera kit is available now for US$299.

The Mole
I also recently received the Mole, from Astak. This is a single camera for US$299, but unlike the Vue cameras, this unit must be plugged in for power (it has Wi-Fi as well as Ethernet for connectivity). It can be panned and tilted by remote control over the Web, so one camera can see more than two Vues in some setups.

The Mole also has infrared illuminators for low-light capability, and a microphone, so you can see and hear what’s happening at all hours. Since the camera is always on and can see in all conditions, it can also watch for motion and perform actions–alerting you and recording video and stills either to the Web or to its own memory card–when it detects movement. It even has a speaker so you can talk back through the camera. It is black and industrial-looking, however, befitting its name –not so great for installation in a nice white-painted hallway.

The Mole is capable and complex if you dive into all it can do, but initial setup is easier than with many other IP cameras. You don’t need to monkey with too many settings to get it to work, since the Mole uses the Yoics, Web-based remote access service. Registering a camera for viewing over the Web is straightforward. Advanced services include automatic video upload to YouTube when the camera is triggered, and alerts sent out to Twitter.

There’s still work to be done on the Mole/Yoics integration, though. Users need two IDs and passwords to access a single Mole: One for their Yoics account and then a separate ID for the camera itself. That should be fixed.

The Mole/Yoics system gives you a nice iPhone-optimized Web page, so you can view live video from your mobile. The Vue cam team says it’s working on iPhone capability, but it’s not available yet.

Ugly and capable wins over cute and simple
I like the Vue system’s size and simplicity but its lack of a motion sensor relegates it to toy status, at least for me. (I know other people who feel it offers just what they need.) The Mole, on the other hand, does everything a nervous parent wants, but it’s more complex than the marketing materials will lead you to believe, it’s ugly hardware, and the Web integration is unfinished.

If you’re to believe the rumours, there’s a good chance that the next generation of iPods will be outfitted with basic cameras.

Personally, we’re not thrilled about the idea of a camera on the Nano. Sure, a Nano cam would be fun, and Apple could have a field day marketing it as one of the thinnest cameras ever made. In most cases, however, the camera on your mobile phone is going to be a lot more useful — allowing you to email, MMS or upload photos on the go.

Now, putting a camera on the iPod Touch seems more practical. On the Touch, you’d get the benefit of open-ended development from the App store, a larger-screen size than you’ll find on most cameras, zooming and editing features, and the capability to email or upload your photos over Wi-Fi.

But just because a camera-equipped Touch makes sense, doesn’t mean we’ll see one. After all, Apple is laser-focused on up-selling people on the iPhone and has historically gone out of its way to give the iPhone the lead when it comes to features (remember when you couldn’t even get email on the Touch?). A camera-equipped third-generation Touch would also potentially benefit from the video-recording capabilities included in the upcoming iPhone 3.0 operating system. Somehow, it seems un-Apple-like to jump from an iPod Touch with no camera at all to one with photo and video capture … An iPod Touch or Nano with a camera still won’t benefit from the GPS-tagging capabilities or MMS messaging of the iPhone. One thing an iPod Touch camera could do, which mobile phone carriers would never allow on something like the Wi-Fi-enabled iPhone, is video chat. An iPod Touch with a forward-facing webcam capable of iChat/Skype-style video communication would certainly turn heads and fill an untapped niche in the portable device market.
