The new 8-megapixel camera sported on the iPhone 4S, is more than just about extra megapixels. Apple packed significant improvements to the optics, sharpening image quality and increasing the lens aperture to f/2.4.

The larger aperture lets in more light, bringing brighter and better photos. The advanced hybrid infrared filter also keeps out harmful IR light, resulting in more accurate and uniform colors.

The backside illuminated sensor and an improved LED flash, iPhone 4S can also take quality photos in low-light or high-light surroundings, making sure the camera generates the best images in any level of light.

Advanced algorithms in iOS5 gives the camera more color accuracy, better white balance and greater dynamic range. The A5 chip’s image signal processor makes the iPhone 4S camera faster, with less shutter lag.

An artist, who was using a program to remotely capture and upload pictures of people testing out Apple computers across New York, has had his home raided by the secret service. Kyle McDonald created the project entitled People Staring at Computers as a “photographic intervention”. He described it as a “custom app installed around NYC, taking a picture every minute and uploading it if a face is found in the image.”

The website created full screen images and video of shoppers testing Apple computers. McDonald said he started the project when he obtained permission from a store security guard to take photos. The secret service has its electronic crime division involved with the investigation. McDonald recently posted a tweet which revealed they had raided his home: ” secretservice just stopped by to investigate and took my laptop. Please assume they’re reading any e-mails you send me.”

The photos taken were uploaded to a Tumblr page and were commented on by followers of the project. The BBC has been told by a secret service spokesperson that they are investigating McDonald under the US Code Title 18/1030 or “fraud and related activity in connection with computers”.

Offences under the legislation could see McDonald facing up to a 20-year prison sentence. McDonald has informed his Twitter followers that the online freedom group Electronic Frontier Foundation has advised him not to comment on the case. As of 11 July 2011 no arrests have been made relating to the case. Apple is yet to comment.

A fresh leak has given further credence to the all-but-confirmed presence of a front-facing camera in Apple’s upcoming iPad 2.

The hotly anticipated spec which was inexplicably left out in the original iPad, despite the Cupertino giant making a big fuss out of its FaceTime video calling service, now looks set to make the cut in the iPad successor. That is, if leaked snaps of what appears to be a screen protector for the mooted tablet is anything to go by.

Unearthed by 9 to 5 Mac, the only distinct feature of the transparent foil giving away the presence of a webcam is an extra hole on the opposite end of where the home button is, i.e. at the very top and bang smack in the middle.

Although it doesn’t tell us if there will be a rear-mounted camera too, it’s certainly not as desirable as the former. But with rival tablets sporting both front and rear snappers, here’s hoping Apple will see reason and give us both.

A small, but interesting, update to Skype‘s iPhone app got pushed out today. Version 3.0.1 builds on the video calling capability that was added back in December by adding support for a wider range of Skype clients and devices, including Skype for TV.

If the idea of making a video call from some far-flung corner of the world back to a family TV sounds appealing to you, you’ll need a TV that specifically supports Skype. A number of Panasonic and Samsung sets will do the job, while a compatible webcam is required too. A list of supported kit is here.

While video calling to your TV may remain elusive for many for now, Skype purchasing mobile video streaming service Qik and offering paid-for group video chat both indicate that the company sees video as an important part of its future.

With user numbers reported to have rocketed of late, and Internet connected TV devices starting to break into the mainstream, it’s likely that it won’t be long before the idea of calling home and chatting to the family through a 40″ flat screen in the corner of the room is commonplace.

Word is out that the much-awaited tablet from Apple’s camp, the iPad 2, is in production, confirming earlier reports claiming that the tablet is due for launch in April. The Wall Street Journal, citing sources close to the matter, reported that Apple has commenced manufacturing the sequel to its iPad with a faster processor and built-in camera. The Journal also confirmed that the new iPad will be available on Verizon and AT&T but not with Sprint Nextel Corp. or T-Mobile.

Reports of a faster processor have been circulating since January. The current breed of Android tablets like Motorola Xoom use a dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. Reports suggest that iPad 2 will take on the Tegra 2 dual-core chip with its system on a chip. Apple currently uses A4 chips in all its iOS-based products.

The iPad 2 processor is also rumored to employ the SGX543 graphics support. The current iPad uses SGX535 graphics support. This addition will bring 1080p video capability to iPad 2, which Motorola Xoom also offers. The existing iPad offers 720p video playback.

It is also reported that the next iPad will be lighter compared to the presently available iPad which weighs 1.6 pounds. A patent filing by Apple for a technology titled “Reinforced Device Housing” revealed that Apple could possibly use fiber-in-matrix type material like carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the upcoming iPad. The current iPad uses an aluminum frame.

Reports further say iPad 2 will have a front facing camera. Earlier reports suggested that the next iPad could sport a 5 MP and a VGA camera which will be supplied by its iPhone camera supplier Omnivision. The recent crop of Android tablets like Xoom sport two cameras 5MP front-facing and 2MP rear-facing camera. 9to5 Mac reported that the iPad 2 will have a 0.3 MP VGA front-facing camera.

Also in the offing is a possible boost to the screen resolution. However, 9to5 Mac reported that the iPad 2 will have a better screen build but will have the same screen configuration of 1024×768 as the existing iPad. Although DigiTimes had reported that iPad 2 could boast of a 2058×1536 resolution screen, the current line-up of Android tablets say Xoom offers a 1280×800 in resolution, Samsung Galaxy Tab offers 1024×600 resolution and Dell Streak 7 sports 800×480 in screen resolution. The standard set by Apple iPad 2 may retain the same screen resolution though it will affect iPad’s battery life.

Last year, Apple launched its iPad in virgin territory. This year there are a host of tablets, primarily based on Android, like Motorola Xoom, RIM’s PlayBook, Notion Ink Adam, Lenovo LePad and some still to be launched like HTC Scribe and Flyer and LG’s G-Slate with 3D capability.

Almost all of us have gone through a moment where we have access to the internet, talk to friends, chat through web cam, show something at the mall, or show a live performance while on the go but do not have a portable web cam. Or we have a web cam but is not wireless, and needs plugging in of wires, which is not possible. Here is a gadget, a webcam made compatible for the apple products.

The design of this webcam has been made keeping the style level of the apples products in mind. This means, the webcam is obviously a unique design and will look great when used with your iPhones or iPads. The design of this web cam is simple and easy to use. It is in the form of a USB, and there is a camera on the front side of the web cam, which will enable your friends to see you when having a video chat.

The webcam has an aluminum body and a glass enclosure to protect the lid of the webcam from damages when not in use. As you can see in the pictures, the quality of images and video displayed when using this webcam is absolutely fantastic, so you won’t have any problems with that. It is not very big in size, which makes it portable and easy to carry around.

Also, the camera part of the webcam is very flexible so you can turn and twist the camera to show the person you are chatting with the view of the surroundings around you, which doesn’t require you to move around. You can do all your work and talk how much you want with your friends sitting in one place!

With all the factors listed above, and if you are an Apple person, this product is just right for you. Because it blends in perfectly with the designs of the iPad, iPhones and so on. So, don’t think about getting this product twice, just go for it.
