Lion Cub Webcam At National Zoo

On Aug. 31, the Smithsonian’s National Zoo welcomed a litter of African lion (Panthera leo) cubs. Shera and her cubs can now be viewed on the Zoo’s live webcam.

Five-year-old Shera gave birth to four cubs, her first litter and the first surviving litter for the cubs’ father, 4-year-old Luke. The cubs were born between 10:30 p.m. Monday and 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and are thriving and doing well.

As a first-time mother, Shera is very attentive and has been seen nursing and grooming her cubs. Lion keepers will also post cub updates on the website. The cubs will not be out in the yard until late fall, which will give the Zoo’s animal keepers and veterinary team time to examine them and monitor Shera as she adjusts to being a first-time mother.

The webcams and the installation were generously provided by CGH Technologies Inc. allowing viewers around the world to watch the lions and other wildlife at the National Zoo. More live webcam zoo around the world HERE on 123cam.com
