A harsh cold wave that has killed more than 300 people in Europe over the past two weeks still has a long way to go before it runs its course.

Temperatures during this stretch have been 10 to 20 degrees below normal, on average, from European Russia into the Balkan Peninsula, Germany, even as far west as France, and more such cold will grip many areas through the end of the week. Live webcams from Europa

The camera system compresses weeks of construction work into brief time-lapse videos and also posts two high-resolutions photographs every 30 minutes.

The dam’s height will go from 200 feet to 337 feet, making it the largest roller-compacted concrete dam raise in the world, according to the SDCWA. The project will more than double the capacity of the San Vicente Reservoir, allowing it to hold an additional 150,000 acre-feet of water.

Once the project is complete and the reservoir is refilled, the dam will be re-opened for recreational use, projected sometime between 2014 and 2017, depending on rainfall and supply and demand of water, according to Foster : San Vicente Dam Raise Webcam Construction

The live New Year’s Eve webcam feed overlooking the skyline of Iceland’s capital, Reykjavík was a great success, pulling in over 200,000 viewers worldwide.

The webcam, set up by Icelandic telecommunications company Míla, each year, thousands of tourists visit Iceland to see in the New Year and witness the spectacular firework display. Visitors describe the event as something everybody should experience at least once.   Thanks to Míla, viewers were able to experience the exploding rockets and dancing lights as it happened from the comfort of their own homes.

In addition to the New Year’s Eve 2011 webcam feed, Mila also maintains many other webcams situated around Iceland, all of which can be viewed live 24/7.
