The workers at the site are a combination of G.A.B. staff and temporary staff hired for this project. Work is currently proceeding during two shifts each day.

The camera is generally fixed in one position and is not controlled remotely or otherwise adjusted during the course of the day. The audio is turned off.

Each petition page is being reviewed by two separate reviewers to ensure each signature complies with legal requirements. The petitions are in packages of 50 pages. These packages must be checked out and checked in each time they are reviewed. The results of these reviews will be tracked in a database. Additional checks (duplicates for example) will also be completed later in the process. Click here to watch the webcam.

People heading for the Kootenay Lake ferry terminal at Kootenay Bay can get a look at just how long the wait will be thanks to a new webcam, reports Megan Cole for the Nelson Star.

The East Shore Internet Society set up the webcam as a service to the community, says Bob Carter, operations manager for the society.

“It’s been very popular. People think it’s the best thing we’ve ever done. It is really handy and I’ve used it many times myself, especially when the little ferry was running, I would sit there and wonder do I go for the ferry and think ‘not yet, not yet. Ok now!’” he said. The webcam can be seen HERE.

Whilst you may be beneath the impression that all webcams are alike, higher definition or Hi-def webcams are developed to produce much better photo characteristics than conventional internet cameras. With the Hi-def marketplace growing as being a complete, these webcams fit proper in to people’s expectations for image and sound quality.

These webcams far surpass any from the other folks around the marketplace, and so they appear to obtain better each day. Right here is a brief overview of what these cameras really are and the way you could be able to make use of one to your pc. How Hd Webcams work?

Hd webcams operate just like any others out there. Most of them plug straight into a USB port or have a wireless connection that adapts to your pc. They can be used on pc or desktops, and there are many mounting options available to suit your needs. Just like a standard Hi-def camera, an Hd webcam will pick up on more details of an image it is filming than a standard webcam will. This leads to a clearer image on the screen and a much better resolution for everyone involved.

Uses of Hi-def Webcams. Whilst you may be beneath the impression that all webcams are alike, higher definition or Hi-def webcams are developed to produce much better photo characteristics than conventional internet cameras.

Happy Feet has become a creature of the Internet age. The wayward emperor penguin, who was discovered on a New Zealand beach six weeks ago and will soon be returned to the wild, already boasts an online following of more than 120,000.

That’s how many unique visitors have logged onto a webcam set up to monitor his every movement. It’s expected thousands more will follow his progress after he’s released in the coming weeks, when feeds from a GPS tracker unit attached to his back will be posted online.

Then there’s all the chatter about him on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. It doesn’t seem to bother his followers that Happy Feet, nicknamed after the 2006 animated movie, does little more than eat, sleep and occasionally waddle.

“At 11:20 p.m. in New Zealand, Happy Feet was sound asleep with his left foot and flipper sticking out,” wrote one breathless Facebook fan. “Five minutes later, he pulled in his left foot and flipper and just got up! ”

The penguin was discovered June 20 on Peka Peka Beach, about 65 kilometres northwest of Wellington and far from his Antarctic feeding grounds. He was moved to the Wellington Zoo four days later after becoming ill from eating sand, which he likely mistook for snow. He has since gained weight and been given a clean bill of health to be returned to the ocean.Thousands of dollars have been raised by the zoo caring for the penguin that wound up on a New Zealand beach. It will soon be returned to the wild.Associated PressHis unusual journey has captured worldwide interest. Local television station TV3 set up a webcam on June 30 in the small, ice-filled room at the zoo where Happy Feet has been recuperating. The phone calls began coming in soon after. The zoo sent a veterinarian to check the penguin late one night after TV3 was swamped by worried callers convinced Happy Feet had died, said zoo spokeswoman Kate Baker. It turned out the penguin was sleeping.

Then there was the email TV3 received from Janet in Chicago, who said she was ill but took “a lot of comfort in simply watching the penguin.”

“It’s kind of like O. Henry’s story ‘The Leaf,”‘ she wrote. “I feel as long as the penguin does well, I’ll do well.” Thousands of dollars raised for penguin’s care

Gordon McBride, TV3′s Wellington bureau chief, said he and a colleague came up with the idea of the webcam. “When we asked the zoo, they said ‘Yep. Why not.”‘ McBride said. “It’s such an unusual thing, and people like to see that.”

Baker said that as a result of the “great response” to the webcam, the zoo is now considering live streaming other animals and the zoo’s medical procedures. Through a public campaign, the zoo has raised the $10,000 needed to cover the costs of housing Happy Feet, she said. It also has raised about $8,000 toward the cost of returning him to the sub-Antarctic ocean south of New Zealand, Baker said. That trip could cost up to $30,000.

She said the GPS tracker unit will likely stay attached only until Happy Feet molts next April and could come off sooner. The penguin also has had a microchip implanted in him which will be triggered if he roams near monitored colonies in Antarctica : Penguin followed by thousands on webcam.

Western Carolina University recently unveiled a new webcam designed to provide visitors with a “you-are-there” look at the newly redesigned central core of campus.

The new camera replaces an old unit housed at the A.K. Hinds University Center. Because the previous webcam was located behind a glass window, the image often was obscured by glare, especially during afternoon hours when it was pointed toward the setting sun. The new camera, which is located on Balsam Residence Hall, boasts an image size about 50 percent larger than the older model, said Jed Tate, WCU web services manager.

“The image has a wider aspect ratio of 16:9, so we’re able to show more of the campus than before, and the camera’s panning and zooming capabilities allowed us to position a better shot,” Tate said. “That means that instead of a small view of just the Alumni Tower, viewers can see the tower, the University Center and the new fountain.”

Color and brightness have improved as well, he said. “Daytime shots are much clearer, and nighttime shots don’t just go dark,” he said. “They can be pretty striking actually.” The webcam produces a “snapshot” of the central core area of campus, and the image is updated every 10 seconds. Visitors to the website will need to hit the Web browser’s refresh button to see the updated image.

In addition to giving visitors to the university website a look at campus, images from the WCU webcam frequently appear on local television newscasts and even nationally on networks such as The Weather Channel. Jason Boyer, chief meteorologist with WLOS-TV, the Asheville-based ABC affiliate, said he has seen a marked increase in the quality of images.

“The improvements to the Western Carolina University webcam have been wonderful,” Boyer said. “As a meteorologist, it has certainly been an integral tool, helping me see what’s happening in that area of our mountains, and I use this webcam on a daily basis for my forecasts.” The webcam can be found on the WCU website HERE.
